Officials in Buncombe County have declared a local state of emergency and announced the opening of several shelters ahead of this weekend's winter storm.

Board of Commissioners Chair Amanda Edwards announced Buncombe County’s declaration of a local state of emergency effective Jan. 23 at noon. This declaration, which is scheduled to go through 6 p.m.
