Welcome to the era of digitisation. 🎞 We’re rewinding back to the age of VHS and film formats for UNESCO’s World Day of Audiovisual Heritage. Our conservator Daniel Bornstein explains how we’re transforming old mediums from our collection into more future-friendly formats. The Central government plans to complete 3D digitisation of all museums under its administrative control by the year end for better conservation of artefacts. Besides aiding conservation, 3D digitisation in the museum space can offer visitors new ways to access and explore the collection. 3D models can be used in augmented reality and virtual reality learning experiences, and facilitate 3D printing. 📽 The Sydney Tramway Museum is digitising their 16mm film archive, and we're supporting via the Transport Heritage Grants Program! 📺 Over time, the chemicals in 16mm film begin to deteriorate. The grant, received in the 2023 grants program, funds the digitisation of these valuable pieces of history for future preservation and enjoyment by generations to come. 🚋 The results so far already look superb, and we look forward to seeing the finished project! | Transport Heritage NSW
