Today we released Pyari back to the ocean after more than 3 months of treatment. She is part of a pioneering study with Smithsonian Institute of Conservation Biology on the behavior of three-limbed sea turtles. We released an adult, male loggerhead sea turtle, nicknamed “Steve”, back into the Gulf of Mexico, after successful recovery at Mote’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital 🐢🎉 “Steve” was outfitted with a satellite tag by Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch, which provides vital conservation information. “Steve” washed ashore in Lee County in March and was transported to the Hospital. Some live photos of the Loggerhead hatchlings that have been coming in over the past week! 🐢🐢 Most of them came in from nest evaluations in the Middle Keys and the one was found in an Upper Keys swimming pool. 🌴 72 hours after a nest hatches, Save a Turtle does a nest evaluation to determine how many eggs hatched. Sometimes there are still live hatchlings in the nest that were root-bound and didn’t make it out. The live hatchlings are then admitted to The Turtle Hospital for rehabilitation, w

Recently, we were alerted of a stranded loggerhead near Venice Beach. Coastal Wildlife Club swiftly rescued the 130lb turtle and connected with our team to transport her to our Apollo Beach campus. During the initial triage, symptoms of neurological impairment were observed. To ensure her safety, our veterinarian made the decision to dry dock the turtle overnight. Since then, her behavior and alertness have improved! This loggerhead is now staying in a shallow pool as we continue the efforts to
