When they are young, Northern Goshawks are brown and streaky, with narrow dark bands in the tail, and orange/ yellow eyes. The name goshawk comes from the Old English word for “goose hawk,” a reference to this raptor’s habit of preying on birds. Northern Goshawk Northern Goshawk feeds on a male pheasant, this bird is a yearling and is thought to be a female. This is my first set of goshawk images after many years of trying and many miles of travelling throughout Europe, and it's ironic I photographed the goshawk so close to home.
