🧬 As we wrap up #ForensicScienceWeek, we’re stepping into the DNA lab to learn about DNA extraction. First, our #scientist uses an instrument to heat & shake samples with reagents. This pulls DNA off of swabs/evidence & transfers it into a liquid. This step also breaks open cells, making DNA accessible. ⛓️‍💥 After carefully comparing case/item numbers, she loads liquid samples onto a rack & into the instrument, which “cleans up” samples. It also uses tiny magnets to collect & separate out DNA.
