One hundred years ago, a historic step was made toward gender equality in the United States with the adoption of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. While it would take decades to overcome discriminatory policies, paving the way for women of color to emerge as a powerful electorate, the course was set that summer to forever change the lives of women and the course of U.S. history.
